The samples of curtain fabric
have been arriving so furiously here
that we hardly have time to eat,
and still the postman struggles up the drive with more.
[a mere few of the many rejected fabrics]
I plan to continue with this fascinating topic tomorrow.
When a former colleague has been awarded an MBE
~ while oneself INEXPLICABLY has not ~
it is more important than ever to get the curtains just so.

Wow, a varied selection there Mise. What room are you doing?
ReplyDeleteA big, big window in a small, small tv and music room, Chania. I'm giving up the attempt to dignify technology and just going for my usual happy light colours.
Deleteme either...what's up with that?
ReplyDeleteI love them! More please...
ReplyDeleteI don't know what an MBE is, so I don't feel left out.
Fabric! Fabric! Fabric!
ReplyDeletePerhaps your MBE got lost in the mail. Perhaps not I hear you say. Em Be Eee. Who needs one anyway...? Bit outdated at our end of the world.
ReplyDeleteI do admire a homeowner who cares for their curtain colour. CBE? Curtains Before Everything. (sorry lame, it's hot here)
Are either Jen or I eligible for one?
ReplyDeleteIf not, why not. if so, what is it?
I'm not wild about any of the rejected samples either, looking forward to seeing more.
Please have a little bite of something. you must keep your strenght up!

Thank you, Jane. I will have all the chocolate in the house for your sake.
DeleteThat is shocking news! I'll be very interested in hearing the back story :)

ReplyDeleteoops! sorry Mise...tried to get fancy...Beatles got an MBE...George said it was a cheap bit of string.
ReplyDeleteYour contribution to lifestyle blogging has been great indeed. Surely it was an oversight? Can't they see your choice of curtain fabric is what sustains the fragile economy?? xx
ReplyDeleteDon't you have to be British to get an MBE? Still, you'd think an honorary one would be in the post dear Mise.
ReplyDeleteAh, that explains it then, Sue - a devastating misfortune of birth.
DeleteOnce your curtains have been chosen ( providing they are in the correct fabric ) and are hung to perfection, then the Order of the Garter will be in the post.
ReplyDeleteYou'd best get your 'posh frock' out of mothballs Mise. XXXX
If you order enough samples you can make a little patchwork curtain for free. I am ordering tile samples on the same principle, for a splashback. Don't tell anyone.
ReplyDeleteLucille, please post extensively on this matter. I too have a stockpile of beautiful tile samples and I'd like to do something magnificent with them.
DeleteYou deserve an MBE for services to pinkness, Mise.
ReplyDeleteThank you Tom. I know you'll put in a good word for me for the next round.
DeleteHello Mise:
ReplyDeleteWe too were very disappointed at the New Year's Honours List, could there be a conspiracy afoot we ask? Surely there is not a blacklist somewhere deep in the Queen's chambers that notes those who are not worthy to be honoured?
Well, we shall make a determined effort in this Jubilee year to wear our tiaras at all times, to ensure that HM The Queen is informed that we do not eat peas with our knives and that our curtains, as indeed yours will be, are just so. Do you think that this will do the trick?!!!
At least I am in your very good company in the fold of the neglected few, Jane and Lance.
DeleteMise believes elusive MBE may be expedited mainly by elegantly managing bunkhouse* embellishment?
ReplyDelete*This would have been soooo much easier if you lived in a bungalow Mise, or hadn't already said they weren't curtains for your boudoir!
Ingenious, Annie!
DeleteThose curtains would brighten up anyones world. How peppy!
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine that the cushion covers in that chosen 'media' room will now start to feel a bit drab and need pepping up themselves. Have you factored this in to your redesign my dear?
Amen! It is more important than ever that the curtains be just so. That is exactly the sort of stability and perseverance [perseveration?] I come here to be inspired by.
ReplyDeleteDo excuse me! I must have bungled the address when sending out this years Molecular Beam Epitaxi Awards. Never fear, dear Mise, yours will be arriving shortly.
As a previus commenter said, alas, dear Mise, you would only qualify for an honorary award ...... which of course you deserve for the rays of light you beam out into an otherwise grey world!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, you must wait for just so. Sending strength and patience your way...
ReplyDeleteIf curtains are not just so, then the world is just not right!
ReplyDeleteAn MBE or flowery curtains? I'd settle for the latter most days! Concentrate on the essential task ahead Mise! Do not let peripheral matters distract you!
ReplyDeleteDear Mise
ReplyDeleteI am sure there is is an envelope from HRH mixed between those sample packages. Watch out for that postman, he has probably steamed open your invitation and even the the sheep grazing on the Aran Island know of your honour. Keep your chin up and your acceptance speech polished.
Helen xx
may i help
ReplyDeleteThank you - a lovely choice. I had chosen something rather similar but after 3 weeks the curtain company told me that it was no longer in production. Now I am angling toward birds in my derivative way.
