There's been a trend in recent years to label everything round the house - soap bowls, string holders, bread boxes, jam pots, tea and coffee jars and all that vintage glory stuff. I've campaigned tirelessly against this, led marches, organised petitions and sat in for sit-ins, as I don't like being patronised by my groceries, but somehow it's different if you use containers for the wrong purpose.

As though any greater delight were possible, the matching pillowcases came in smaller, even more beguiling bags. I don't know what I'll do with them yet but just having them makes my life complete.

ReplyDeleteWell,as we speak, the exact same Toast duvet cover and pillow cases are on our bed ( although, mine are the beige/grey ticking ones). I too, received them as a gift and, I love the bags that they came in but also wonder what to do with them. I thought that maybe I could make some delightful cushions for the bed, but have yet to get around to it.
You, being the wonderful seamstress that you are, could have them done by this evening and they could be on your bed before you can say 'feather or duck down' !!

Everybody, have you spotted that Jacqueline has the very same duvet cover (colour aside) as I do. I didn't realise I was in with the in crowd but what a feeling! Have you got this duvet cover? Be there or be square.

DeleteHaving seen the above I have now concluded that I need more pink in my life. The duvet cover looks soft and snuggly, like much washed cotton sheets when I was a child.
ReplyDeleteJust to let you know I refuse to name things too, which means we have to sniff all the herbs and spices I have decanted into adorable mini kilner jars, they look beautiful on my little shelf, but are a complete mystery sometimes until you close your eyes and sniff. I also have great fun mixing the tea, coffee, and sugar jars (plain white china)so you always get the one you didn't want. We know how to live in the North!
It sounds wonderfully zen, Susan, all that sniffing and guessing. I so approve. Do people name their children in the North, I wonder, or just get by?

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful re-purpose! Do you or pink & blue daughters have anything else electronic that would fit in the smaller bags? I seem to remember something about Scottish husband being fond of gadgets too... though perhaps he might not like the colour palette. A book-reading device or games-console or something akin might be aesthetically improved by a ticking-stripe coverlet.

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful duvet. I will not be one bit surprised if there is a blue line evenly painted on it sometime soon (blue girl might just want her logo on it)Besides "blue girl" is a much more familiar brand to "toast".
Perhaps Scottish Husband might light to hang it from his motorcycle, it could hold marbles, golf balls and his tin whistle. Just a thought
I know that feeling Mise..all these lovely devet covers and the like have lead me on to big decisions...the latest is a steam iron ..which looks like something from 'the mother ship' to battle all those creases and make them look as lovely as the day they were purchased. I wonder if I am in trouble on this front!

We are the outcasts of the bedroom duvet cover brigade.
We have no Toasty ticking in either pastel pink or greige.
We shall not rest easy in our beds at night.
We shall have no cover for our trusty PC.
We shall be Mr and Mrs Blogland no mates......
But, dearest Mise, what really mystifies us as we peer at the picture of your delicious pillowcase cover, is what the 'housewife' had to do with it all?!!!

Good thing putting it to use. I fear that these bags all around the globe will develop issues, being left empty and forlorn in musty linen cupboards, while their contents get to live in the real world and be admired.
