Yellow Kitchenaid painting

I'm ever so taken with the bright and sturdy dignity of this Kitchenaid mixer painted by Kerry.

Isn't it wonderful? So much so indeed that my Great Ambition, conceived just a minute ago, is to open the National Gallery of Domestic Still Life, containing pictures of sofas, dresses, books, appliances, forks and other important things, their blunt beauty and practicality made intriguing through paint.

All I need is a grand premises and some wavy-edged tickets that say ADMIT ONE. Some red dot stickers as well, I suppose, to finance the whole enterprise.

  1. I like that idea! There's a local artist where I live who paints only pears. I love her work - I wish I could afford one of her giant pear paintings. :)

  2. Premises should be in Victoria square- Temple to Consumerism at heart of Belfast- where the real items would fly off the impeccably lit shelves in the Museum Shop. Cafe also required!

  3. I look forward to the KitchenAid themed gifts in the gift shop. Cards, scarves, umbrellas... but no acual kitchen equipment. Thanks for the warning about the Guernsey Potato book (uselessly long title) - I will add The Diary of a Provincial Lady to my overly ambitious list... Thanks!

  9. Yes, definitely a gallery, if not a whole museum. I like this painting, and I think it's the color I want for my kitchen-aid - somewhere between taxicab and sunshine.

  10. Ah Mise, only you could come up with this brilliance. Thank you for letting my little painting bask in the reflectled glory of your genius idea. Now, which appliance to paint next so that I can get at least one free ticket?? :)

  19. Haha! My first publishing in Better Homes & Gardens was my fabric applique collage of a Singer sewing machine! That predicated my 17 years on staff there :)

  23. Ah, beautiful indeed. Would you accept arty photographs of domestic still life into your gallery? (And do you know anyone who could teach me how to take photos artily?)

  24. Yes but will the Monopoly come first? I would have both the painting - and the mixer. MMM now there's a thought. Love the way we call it 'Still Life' and the French call the same thing, 'Nature Morte.'

  25. and don't forget the tomato soup.

  26. That kitchen aid appears to shimmer with sunflower yellow domestic promise!

I'm thinking that your museum is really an annex of the design museum and could nestle quite nicely there? Maybe they would also provide a creche for parents who want to go into full trance mode? Wandering with longing glazed eyes around the miele appliances, kitchen aid section, mid century classic china ware aisles and designer kitchen knives?

Actually, it;'s starting to sound like an upscale IKEA - is that what we're all really after?

  27. Cool. I was flooded with jealousy to see that terrific yellow kitchen-aid mixer painting. I love it!! My ego felt petted though when I saw the link to something that includes ME, whew:) Just this morning i had to stop by the paint store to buy some bright yellow for a little hallway (managed to come away with pink and blue too.) As always, thanks for the inspiration.

  31. Could there be a golden ticket as well, like Willy Wonka, and the prize would be all the stylish kitchen utensils a home could ever want?
