do you like my new sofa?

Here in the imaginary Galway branch of the Women's Institute, we like to apply Unwritten Rule 11.6 of Lifestyle Blogging: never show the bad sights.

Through judicious camera-pointing, the reader will be distracted from the PROLONGED UNHOLY MESS and DISTRESSING DIRT of extensive bathroom renovation and the month-long EXCEPTIONALLY RAINY RAIN.

[The much managed new playroom sofa]

[Flowers from Scottish Husband]

See, same old arcadian far west. And the screen fades to pink.

  1. Rare for me to be the first to offer my swoonings, but here I am. The sofa is divine.

  2. I love your new sofa :-) And your new favicon (or is it an old favicon that Blogger has only now deigned to show me?)

I try to follow said unwritten rule too, which is why you don't get ANY interior shots of my home. However judiciously you may point a camera, however artistically you may blur the background, unholy mess will creep into the photo somehow.

  3. Great sofa, great angle....see I can say something other than great post.

  4. That would be a resounding YES. I love your new sofa. It's perfectly you. Oh dear about the unwritten 11.6 rule. I have broken it many times now. I may have my membership revoked from the Brisbane branch of the Women's Institute...

  5. Wonderful sofa for cozy evenings with pink;D rose wine or champagne :)
Your rule is my rule number 1 :)
XOXO from not so far in the west;)

  6. Life is all about where you focus the attention!
Love the new sofa + beautiful flowers...never mind the mess!

  7. I love love love it! The pink says JOY, HAPPINESS, and it also seems comfy.

  8. I don't care about the exceptionally rainy rainy. It's as far west as possible for me next year- far too many dress sizes at stake with croissants, crepes and cidre! If that's the playroom, there really is no point in my cleaning the bathroom. Much better to stay here and lifestyle fantasise!

  9. Ah Mise, I see you are using techniques of a Professinal Stylist....very good.

Sofa is lovely.....is that color called Rhubarb?

  10. Oh, I do, I do..! It's simply perfect! What a beautiful sight on this gray morning. Wish I could sit there with you over a cup of tea.

And Scottish husband's flowers are very sweet.

    xoox,
    -maria

ps: The mess will fade. Eventually. It will. And when everything is said and done, you'll have a gorgeous bathroom. Featured in House and Home, most likely. As for the rain...well.

  11. fabulous sofa - I find that my camera takes such bad photos that I never have to work to hard to hide the mess - you can barely see what I am trying to show...
THis would never work for you though as you are such a wonderful and perfect type blogger!

  12. haha...thanks for clearing away the debris and giving us a carefully photo-styled shot at seeing the lovely bones of this pink sofa. You have this in the PLAYROOM? Daring!

  13. I'm visualizing a playroom aka Mary Poppins.

  14. I strictly adhere to that rule. And yes, I like your new sofa very much. Your husband is sweet to bring you those flowers but even sweeter to allow a pink sofa into the house. Not many would. :)

  15. Love your new sofa. We have only one photographable angle of our house, so you have us beat with two. (Extremem closeups also help, of the one attractive knick-knack and excluding all else. )

  16. spectacularly lovely sofa!
the lazy cozy household only has a few strategically cleared spots every now and again too.

  17. Why has no one told me about said unwritten rule before? I shall follow religiously from now on. Gorgeous new sofa, and lovely flowers from Scottish husband.

  18. your couch is a couch to contemplate all that is important and necessary in this life of ours , you are the luckiest woman in ireland and the entire universe to have such a couch , it's no wonder scottish husband is buying you flowers.

I would like to see a the entire list of lifestlyle blogging as told by mise from 1 to 84.9.

thank you in advance , flowers are on the way

  19. Oh my goodness, I think I just broke a few other rules (of the biblical variety) coveting your sofa. I was so tickled at the sight of it that I actually exclaimed aloud "It's pink!" It is and I am green with envy. Wish more people would show their sofas...

  20. I love the sofa (and a husband who supplies wife with flowers).

  21. Sofa is lovely,
    The pink is devine,
and I think it is better placed in your house
    Rather than mine.

The only way it would survive my family would be to keep it in a crate.
Does Scottish Husband act on his own, or is there a rule for bringing flowers to wife. It is definitely not in my Stateside Chapter Handbook.

  22. Devine? Divine! I should learn to proooof read first.

  23. Beautiful! And it's one of those 'sit right back and your feet don't even touch the floor' couches. My favourite. I'm sure the girls look like super cute princesses sitting on it!

  24. I do like your new sofa. Very much. Say, that Unwritten Rule reminds me of Julia Child's philosophy of never, ever apologising for one's cooking. I like it.

  25. This post could be entitled 'shock and awe' for the effect it's had. I always thought fancy sofas like that lived in magazines, and not in real houses, never mind playrooms.

And, as always, I agree with jaboopee- a full list of blogging rules as identified by you would be well worth reading.

Heartfelt sympathies for renovations in the rain. My house will never be renovated. Now I can blame the weather...

  26. You new sofa is AMAZING...oh I'm so jealous right now...

  27. Dear Mise,
Well, it takes a brave woman to have a pink sofa but, it works beautifully..... and it takes a lovely Scottish husband to buy yellow chrysanths. The whole look says 'Mise' to me. Really pretty. XXXX

  28. I love Scottish husband because A. he's Scottish which means he rocks and B. he brings you beautiful flowers.

  29. You had me at hot pink! Just gorgeous. Crumbs I wish I'd known about that rule!

    ReplyDelete
  30. That's the Number One Rule!

And what a delightful sofa: designed for reclining gracefully, sipping g&t and smiling to oneself while the children play with miniature tea sets...

  33. Hi Mise it looks like Josh wants to give away your blog. Or your sofa. Or couch as we call it in Australia. That's an idea. A giveway blog.

I love love your couch. It looks like it is covered with linen? I assume it is a 'Good Sofa'. To go in the 'Good Room' (another Australianism) and hence not for the Rowdies.

  38. Pea green (that's me) I love your new sofa, flowers, cushions, jug, membership to Galway WI!!! :-)

That hot pink is hot!! Great choice and yes I'm wedded to rule 11.6 can't bring myself to show 'the bad, the ugly' at least not until there's an 'after' shot :-)

  39. I love your pretty pink couch and the flowers from your Scottish husband- Lovely lovely lovley!

  40. Oh I love that sofa! And sorry to hear you are suffering from exceptionally rainy rain. Here we have dreary displaced drizzle, which causes ferociously feral frizz.

    ReplyDelete
  41. THE best thing about blogging. We all get to be total Pollyannas if we want! Just pretend it's all beautiful and marvelous all the time!

  42. That's it, I'm not sure we can be friends. That sofa is making me cry. More correctly, my sad old leather sofa, scuffed by school shoes and buckles, smeared with spaghetti bolognaise and I-don't-want-to-know, is making me cry. And then...just when I think I can't stand any more gorgeous displays of perfection, you show a vase of gorgeous flowers, bought by your gorgeously thoughtful Scottish husband in front of a gorgeously bobbled cushion. Throw me a bone, Mise!

I know you're saying that you're aiming the camera judiciously...I suspect you're just being kind. Thanks for trying. Meredy xo.

  43. I do, in fact, LOVE the sofa...and your wild wit.

  44. Just scurried in to say I LOVE that cushion - stripes are definitely the way forwward.

  45. I've just found your blog through House and Home and love it. Your sofa looks great! I spend my life surrounded by fabrics, swatches, paint pots etc so your original post about sofa management made me smile. I get so over excited when I see fabrics that it had just never occurred to me that choosing fabrics could be a bit of a time consuming chore....
