occasional Swedish whims

I believe this may be what they call an occasional chair, so I only sit on it occasionally. Better safe than sorry. Much though I love its vivid stripes, I sometimes think I'd like a Swedish slipcover and a whole new look.

These crisply striped covers, photographed by Martin Cederblad via Desire to Inspire, would be the very thing.

I still haven't managed to source anything like these, with their pretty practicality and echoes of nautical Victoriana. If I were the wonderful Yvonne of Yvestown, I'd make my own, but I think I'm just not up to it despite my valiant purchase of 'Sew'. Doesn't hers look cheerful and inviting?

I've also dreamt of being crowned Miss Sweden ever since I started writing this post, but I guess I'm too old now, as well as not being Swedish. So that's it. No slipcover, no beauty queen title. A melancholy day here.

  2. No melancholy required. he Swedish blue I do like best, but your vibrancy beats Sew effort effortlessly!

  3. I think your chair is just lovely as it is...
ever since i started to write this comment on your blog i've dreamt of ridding you of that melancholy please make it be so.
ps. i'd never start the party without the amazonian dancing queen they call mise ! those extra cups were just for the film director and her assistant.

  5. That is a topic all of its own - if you could be crowned Miss ---- what country would you pick? I would pick Columbia or India as I always wanted to be dark and olive skinned with shiny hair. I like your chair as is. Slipcovers can look very sloppy. Although I guess you could make up Summer and Winter ones and change seasonally, that would be fun and also pretty OTT. xoxo

  6. I do like the blue and white slip cover but I think your chair is great as is. The colors are so cheery.

P.S. No worries, I know you'll send me the picture. I'm really having fun seeing every one's views.

  7. Time to take some sewing lessons then lady or, even better, get busy with a stapler! The noise alone will ease any and all frustrations :)

  8. You do make me laugh. In an internal, 'oh she's so good with words' kind of way. :)

  10. Perhaps Miss Ireland would be a good place to start and then build up to Miss Sweden !!!!.....and some peroxide on the hair and a funny accent would help !!(no offence meant to Swedish readers !)
As for the chairs, a bit of research or sewing evening classes.
    Happy needlecraft, Mise. XXXX

  15. Hee hee!! Very funny, Mise. I do love slipcovers, even when they are rumpled. Kind of like the soft furnishings equivalent of Colin Firth.

Shell, sometimes someone leaves a wonderful comment that's a whole post in one sentence, incorporating image and all. Today that person is you.

If it were me and I wanted to change the fabric - I would get out the staple gun and do the no sew way.

  21. Love that last picture. Swedish lines are really my kind of style.

Why can't I be one of those people that can whip up slip covers?

  22. Can I just tell you that I LOVE your writing! You are talented my dear! If you don't already have a writing gig, you should get one STAT :)

  24. Hi Mise, well the Miss Guernsey competition has been cancelled this year so you can’t enter that one either I’m afraid! Slip covers are highly overrated anyway; that is my opinion but then I am one of the sewing-machine-challenged ;P

  25. Aw, I've missed you, Mise...! I've been away from the computer having a ridiculously busy week... I hope this note finds you feeling less melancholy, but I'm sending a big hug your way nonetheless. You know I have a mad crush on the Swedes, so that would be my personal preference... But I think you need vibrant color in your life, no?

    xoxo,
