out-coloured by Squint

I thought I was zealous enough in my use of colour in the home, but no. Dandelion Daydreamer (an Irish artist and illustrator/designer living in France) led me to cleverly-named Squint, who produce these amazing sofas and chairs. (Yes, they've been around the blogosphere for a while, but I must have blinked.)

It's as though Avoca had escaped from convent school.

They say:
The fabrics used are woven English damasks and shot silver and gold satins with Swarovski rose crystal and pearl detailing. Trimmings are 18th and 19th century from France with woven silver and gold thread. The accessories range includes mirrors and lighting wrapped with Japanese ceremonial Kimono silks which have been embroidered and appliqu├ęd and finished with turn of the century lavender glass beads.
It's hard to fault that. Imagine what a mismatched set of these would look like in a white-panelled room (with gaudy tea-cups to match), and that lovely yellow mirror hovering in the background. And a toleware chandelier. And me, looking proud and bemused.

  1. Mise, I pressed my frozen nose against the window of Squint last December. I was so sad it was closed! Read about them in many mags.
I really love some of their pieces.

  5. i am so jealous of 'squint 'and everything she does .... how fantastically innovative and inspiring to reuse material in this way and to breath new life into old furniture..... hugely expensive though ..

  6. I do lovr these colourful chairs and sofas, but I'm afraid that I'm never brave enough to use that much colour....it is a failing in me.
I know that, after about a year, I will become fed up with the riot of colour.
I posted a wing chair and thought it was lovely, but now, I think it would start grating. ...but that's just me, Mise. A scardy cat when it comes to colour. !!!!! XXXX

  8. Tara, Avoca is too near and too tempting for me. I need to walk around the shop saying over and over "But what would I DO with it?".

Alek, you've summed it up brilliantly and succinctly!

Jacqueline, chances are you're absolutely right. 90% enthusing, 10% purchasing is probably a good sensible mix.

  16. Oh thank you, speccy! That's so nice of you to say when it wasn't even a giveaway (that's when people normally leave nice comments in hope of winning a charming little piece of useless bric-a-brac). You're a dear.

  18. Yeah.. This is definitely too much visual stimulation for me, personally (do people who own these pieces ever sleep??)... But I can appreciate the Mad Hatter quality about them. At a distance. ;)

  21. I love Squint...It is like Designers Guild gone mad.

The mirrors and chandeliers are my favourite pieces by them.
As I think maybe a whole sofa would be too much in my home.
