hiding under a hat

I lost a contact lens and now my vision is like this. To get by temporarily in life I wear my designer spectacles, which make me appear glamorous in a fashion victim sort of a way but also annoy me.

What better to do until the contact lens situation is resolved than hide under a lovely hat from New Urban (they ship to Ireland and they also have a US site).

That first one may be a bit too mother-of-the-bride for popping to the post office, but I love it.

And the stylish black hat, in combination with the fashion victim spectacles, will get me into vaudeville, which is what I'm going to desert blogging for if I don't win a bunch of giveaways pretty sharply. Did you see that Julie at Being Ruby won three (THREE) in the same day? So bring on the handsewn aprons, the green tea candles and the little felted elves; I must be due some giveaway luck.

  2. I used to refuse to go anywhere in my glasses, but lately I've come to realize they're so much more comfortable than contacts. So I wear them all of the time. Good luck with the giveaways - you'll win one soon, I just know it.

  3. I'm only a part-time glasses wearer, but i love them. Except that a friends toddler broke the arm off of my computer pair so I spent six months balancing them on with only one arm...not really a problem - til the other arm snapped off. I'll leave you to imagine how cool I look with my pseudo pince-nez on right now.

Note to self: MUST go to Specsavers.

  4. I'm VERY short-sighted and wear contacts all the time; The problem now is that I'm also near-sighted...getting on a bit you see... bifocal contacts? Heaven forbid!
I realised tonight that I've just written my 159th post and I've only just had a giveaway for my 100th...give me a couple of weeks to reach 200 and I'll throw your name in the hat over at my place.

  6. It gets worse. I have AGE ONSET long sightedness so my contacts will become less effective. Solutions? Bifocal contacts? Sounds wierd. Or the other one proposed to me was 'use one eye for distance and the other for reading' and no the optometrist was not joking. So I may be back to glasses in 4 - 5 years (their estimated not mine).

  10. Aww, I feel badly that you didn't win mine, Mise. I'm sure the giveaway fairies will visit you again soon. I wear my specs at night but the vision is nowhere near as good as through the contacts and bugs me silly, too ~ hope you receive your new ones soon!!

  14. I've no doubt that you are fetching in your specs! I also have a feeling that you could carry off, with great style, any hat that you plunked on your head.
    I never win either. sigh.

  16. Ah, Julie, I'm only 2/3 envious then.

And I'm glad to see a world of spectacles/contacts-wearers out there; I'm not alone. I'll be back to complain about bifocal lenses in another few years.

Deborah, keep posting, looking forward to that 200th!

  17. Those hats are fabulous! Now, if only it would drop under 90 degrees so I could wear one. Hmmm.

  18. Ha! You must get that black one immediately, very very chic and looks to be excellent protection against the impending fall/winter weather.

  19. I won a bike when I was 12. Since then, the winning has been nonexistent. sob.
Those hats are pretty spectacular. I love the black...it's sexy, no?

  20. Janis, I'll have a giveaway especially for you one day. Yes, that black hat is a must. I have an array of black hats but none as nonchalant as this, and nonchalance is surely imperative.
